How to lengthen the life span of your Hair Extension | Part 1

We can all agree that a good quality hair extension, made of 100% premium human hair isn’t cheap, just like a quality handbag or brand clothing, but it’s worth the investment. If you want your clip-in or halo hair extension to have a long and happy life, there are a couple of basic things you should know, and we gathered the information for you.

The first question is how long do hair extension last. This depends on a lot of factors, mainly the quality of the hair extension, the frequency of use, and how well it’s taken care of. Generally we can say they last from 3-6 months up to 1 year or even longer, especially if you buy a good quality hair extension and take good care of it. Washing it too often, using too many hair products and constant exposure to heat (styling tools) won’t help the life span of your hair extension at all.

Here are a couple of tips, on how to elongate the life span of your Halo Hair Extension.

1. How to store properly when not wearing?

It only takes a couple of minutes, but these couple of minutes are crucial for the overall health of your hair extension. It’s important to brush your hair extension out after taking it off to avoid any tangles. Store it in a dry place, where there is no direct sunlight (i.e. in your closet or a drawer) The best solution is if you hang it up on a metal hanger, this way the waves will hold, but a box (like the Ashlynn Braid magnetic box) is perfectly sufficient as well. Please pay attention to only put it in the box if the extension is completely dry.

2. How to brush your hair extension?

Taking care of your hair extension includes brushing it gently every night after taking it off. Start with the ends of the hair extension working your way up, and use a good quality brush or a wide-toothed comb. Brush it out before putting it away as well, please don’t ever put it away with tangles in it. If it gets tangled, divide the hair into parts and detangle it part by part. Don’t ever comb through it when it’s wet, because that is when the hair is the most sensitive. Brush it before washing it, while it’s dry.

3. How to avoid tangles in your extensions?

Even the best quality hair extensions become matt over time, just like our natural hair. The main reasons for tangles are not combing the hair enough, so we recommend, if you can, try combing it during the day as well and not only before putting it on and after taking it off. It’s natural for the hair to get tangled during the day, especially by the nape of your neck. The weather isn’t always in our favor either, because if the wind is blowing then our hair can get tangled, if it rains or if the humidity is too high then it gets curly, if it’s too warm then it becomes dry. But luckily we have easy solutions for this as well, consistent brushing and using good quality, nutritious and hydrating hair products will lead to silky soft and non-tangled hair, and stands a much better chance against the weather as well.
